[ROM][APP][APK] MIUI for unrooted users..Running on many devices.

Xiaomi launches MIUI as an app for Samsung phones

Installing a custom ROM can be a pain for some users. Xiaomi knows this, hence it’s trying to make it easier to run their fancy MIUI software on as many devices as possible.

Instead of rooting the phone and then flashing the custom ROM, the Chinese firm now allows some users to simply download an APK and install it on their phone. The new Xiaomi System Installer app is a 27.9MB-heavy download, and it includes MIUI desktop, MIUI phone app, SMS, contacts, along with access to Xiaomi’s cloud services for phone tracking, backing up data and creating cloud photo galleries.

As I’m writing this, the application is still in beta and works with select phones only. The list of supported devices includes the Samsung Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, Note 3, and certain Nexus devices. But that’s just a start with Xiaomi asking for user input on which phones should come next. Good times ahead for Xiaomi fans…

[ROOT] Droid Universal Root (Root your Device without PC!) BETA

$
0
0
Hi XDA Community!

"This is my first time to post a thread. I post it here because of lack of privileges for now.
This is all about rooting all almost devices without using a PC.
I called it...."

DROID Universal Root
Stable Version is: 1.0.0007 Beta

It's still in development, so it's Open for Testing!
Stay tuned for more releases and updates!

That's right, its UNIVERSAL! But take note, these packages are not yet in final release. Some packages will work in Gingerbread only, some packages will work only in ICS to Jelly Bean. NOT YET DEFINITELY in KitKat ROMs!
ROOT can access all features deep down into system, just like you are a Administrator in Windows Computer!
ROOT can give you more benefits like, optimize performance, save more battery life, completely remove unwanted user and system apps, and more!

FEATURES:
- Of course, Activate Root on your any Android device!
-
*NEW* With "init.d" support function (Experimental/I am not yet sure for Complicated Kernels) ++
-
*NEW* Added useful apps which is ROOT is required! (Since your objective is to optimize performance or quality on your device which is root is required) ++
- *NEW* Included MobileUncle Tools obtained from MTK Droid Tools! +++
- With busybox and other required binaries to make ROOT completely worked.
- NOTE: All apps from Universal Root package obtained from Play Store, so it can update it respectfully. ++

All features with "++" is not included in both Lite Version and MTK Edition LITE.

All features with "+++" is only included in MTK Edition.

FACT ABOUT init.d

Quote:

MY OPINION: In Android, init.d is a series of scripts sourced in a command executed,
from a kernel or ROM (Should be Supported in Old Times...), now all devices all supported after their research!
But it's still not available from Manufacturers, so it needed to install it!!!
init.d scripts are available and it can download from different authors separately!
init.d serves more performance, longer battery life, decreases lags,
MEANING, it optimizes your Android Device!!!

More info about init.d at this link :
http://www.xda-developers.com/androi...-rooted-phone/

REQUIREMENTS:
Since i don't know which private key tools i will use to sign these packages, for now IT WILL WORK ONLY IN CWM Recoveries, but some devices will work like old Stock Samsung Galaxy Recoveries or in 2010-2011 ROM Builds. I never tried the TWRP yet! If you don't know if your device is MTK-based, ask your manufacturers or Google for your Full Device Specifications.

PERSONAL ADVICE : The MAJOR REQUIREMENT for this package is a workable Custom Recovery such as ClockworkMod (CWM), or ELSE i suggest you to use Kingo Android Root,
It will work all almost devices, But it will work if you have a PERSONAL COMPUTER and mini/micro-USB CORD. Then Close it up my thread in your Browser and Start Rooting!!
Link : http://www.kingoapp.com/android-root.htm/

Quote:

- Workable Recoveries
(CWM Recovery or maybe TWRP or Stock Recoveries without Certificate Verification)
- Not yet workable in Android Stock Recovery 3e!!!
- Android Gingerbread 2.3 to Jelly Bean 4.2 (I've told you, not yet for KitKat!)
- At least 10MB Free Space of your Internal Device Storage
- At least 30% Battery remaining or higher on your device
- Unlocked Bootloader (HTC and Sony Bootloaders should be totally unlocked!)
- Make a backup using adb (for Stock ROM), or using Nandroid (CWM)
- You must Know the RISKS will be happen!

RISKS:
- Your device warranty will be void, just because you will modify the Stock ROM build by manufacturers.
- It can cause severe damage if you modify critical files on ROM. Like after installing ChainFire3D Drivers
it doesn't start the device anymore, (AHEM, these cases in Chainfire3D are very rare! It's Just an example.)

STEPS:
Quote:

1.) Download any four packages located in attachment section on my thread!
or download all of these to make it sure!

Quote:

2.) Copy your downloaded packages to "/sdcard"
Quote:

3.) Turn off your phone and reboot it by pressing Home+Power+Volume Up buttons simultaneously.
Quote:

It may take few seconds to appear Main Logo
NOTE: If your phone Home Button was Soft (Touch), Try only with Power and Volume Up.

Quote:

4.) When the Logo appears on your screen, you can now release it and wait for Recovery UI.
You can scroll selections by pressing Volume buttons!
Quote:

5.) Select "choose zip from sdcard". Find and locate the Universal Root package!
When it confirms, select YES or else it will update/flash it automatically.
NOTE: For stock recoveries without "choose zip from sdcard" option,
you must rename one package into "update.zip",
if the one doesn't root well, delete it or keep it on any folder (It's your choice!)
rename another package at the time.
Then select "install update.zip from sdcard".
Quote:

6.) Reboot your device. And find "SuperSU" or "Superuser" app on your menu.
If you found it, Congrats! But we must just to be make sure...
Download Root Validator or Root Checker on Play Store!
(Already included in 1.0.0006!)
Run it and if the Superuser prompts and you grant him, well....

CONGRATULATIONS!
CAUTION : There will be no damages on your Device, except to manufacturers LOL.
If these packages does or doesn't work, it's okay to reboot your device. 0% Bootloops, okay?

DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL NOTICE:
As you can see, they are names like "zBeta".
All of these have an old busybox (1.17.2) binaries except new update!
* zBeta1 are using Superuser app and SU binary.
* zBeta2 are using Superuser app, SuperSU binary, and modified update-binary script
* zBeta3 are just like zBeta2 but i replace Superuser into SuperSU, which is it works on my device!
" zBeta Releases will be removed in fall this 2014!!! "
Please try the new update already sucked in on the attachment thread!
And i include the UNINSTALLER for un-root.
It can flash it too!

PS : Never mind that MTK-Edition on zBeta packages, just use it, alright? :)
Don't forget to hit THANKS after your device is rooted :)

INIT.D VERIFICATION
More info about init.d at this link :
http://www.xda-developers.com/androi...-rooted-phone/
Verification Script by :
drganbds

Here's how : Open the installed your Current ROOT Explorer, then find
the init.d_log_test.txt on "data/local/tmp/" directory
then open it and one line should be inside in the text.
When you see "done" on the first line,
CONGRATS, you have a full init.d support on your device!!!

DVD-R burned with vanilla Android 4.1.1

$

I have just burned a DVD-R connected to my Padfone 2 under vanilla Android 4.1.1. Here are the steps:

(0) install version 9 of gentooandroid.sourceforge.net on a device on which step (4) below can be done (root rights will do).

(1) Connect the DVD writer with an OTG cable, a V cable if you can http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Micro-USB-Hos...item417d1627de or use a powered USB HUB.

(2) /dev/sg0 should appear

(3) dmesg (if run as root) should show
Code:

[15:35:07.998763](CPU:0-pid:29826:scsi_scan_0) scsi 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 5
and take note of the 0:0:0:, which will be refered to as dev=0,0,0 below.

(4) Setup /dev/sg0 so that it will be accessible from Terminal IDE:
Code:

chgrp-moved  10105 /dev/sg0 ; chmod 660 /dev/sg0
where 10105 is the gid of terminal IDE (or, in my case, terminal emulator)

(5) install cdrecord with
Code:

FEATURES=-sandbox PORTAGE_BINHOST=http://sourceforge.net/projects/gentooandroid/files/packages/packages emerge --autounmask-write -gbav --binpkg-respect-use=y cdrtools
(6) insert a blank DVD-R media and close the drive

(7)
Code:

cdrecord dev=0,0,0 driveropts=help -checkdrive
which shows:

Cdrecord-ProDVD-ProBD-Clone 3.00 (--) Copyright (C) 1995-2010 Jo:rg Schilling
scsidev: '0,0,0'
scsibus: 0 target: 0 lun: 0
Linux sg driver version: 3.5.34
Using libscg version 'schily-0.9'.
Device type : Removable CD-ROM
Version : 0
Response Format: 2
Capabilities :
Vendor_info : 'TSSTcorp'
Identifikation : 'CDDVDW SE-218CN '
Revision : 'MF00'
Device seems to be: Generic mmc2 DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD-RAM.
Driver options:
burnfree Prepare writer to use BURN-Free technology
noburnfree Disable using BURN-Free technology
layerbreak Write DVD-R/DL media in automatic layer jump mode
layerbreak=val Set jayer jump address for DVD+-R/DL media

(8) Burn NOW the content of directory/ on the DVD-R:
Code:

mkisofs -V DVDName directory/ | cdrecord -v -dao -tsize `mkisofs -V DVDName -print-size directory/`s fs=6m speed=2 dev=0,0,0 -
(9) eject manually, and test media on another computer.

I may post a video of (8) if asked for that, showing the DVD-R writer in action.

Karbonn ST 9 Marvel ROM Modified

Hello friends this is a modified ROM developed for Karbonn Smart Tab 9 first time by me.
I have seen that many of you do not have a ROM for it.
I have managed to make on for it.

Procedure:
You need to have cwm.
Then reset data/cache
then select the update and install.

Thats it.
Remember this is only for those with having problem with ROM and have cwm installed.

The ROM has:
Xperia Launcher
News Hunt
KingSoft Office
Uc Browser
Es File Explorer
Google Play Music
Zipaligned

These are the apps I have added just so that the performance is good.
Some lags are still present.
Start up time is a bit slow
battery standby is really good.
I would recommend calibrating the battery again.

If internal storage is not enough you may switch the mount points in vold.fstab in /etc/ folder.

Replace the vold.fstab file with the attachment to switch internal and external partition.
It would most probably work... If it doesn't flash the ROM again...

AOSP now requires Java 7, and works with OpenJDK

$

I was just looking at the build instructions page for AOSP and noticed a significant change that must've just happened in the last week or so. Apparently Java 7 is now required, and Google officially recommends using OpenJDK. Under where it says "To develop for older versions..." it lists Java 6 next to KitKat, meaning this is apparently for code newer than KitKat. I don't think OpenJDK was compatible before, so that plus the move to Java 7 seems noteworthy. Can anybody who watches AOSP commits comment on when this change occurred? Is this signifying a non-minor update is coming after KitKat?

For reference, here is the relevant text of the current page at http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html:

Code:

Installing the JDK

The latest version of Android in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) requires Java 7. On Ubuntu, use OpenJDK.

Java 7: For the latest version of Android

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk
Optionally, update the default Java version by running:

$ sudo update-alternatives --config java
$ sudo update-alternatives --config javac
To develop older versions of Android, download and install the corresponding version of the Java JDK:
Java 6: for Gingerbread through KitKat
Java 5: for Cupcake through Froyo

And this is what it said on Feb. 16 according to Wayback Machine:

Code:

Installing the JDK

The Sun JDK is no longer in Ubuntu's main package repository. In order to download it, you need to add the appropriate repository and indicate to the system which JDK should be used.

Java 6: for Gingerbread and newer

$ sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner"
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk
Java 5: for Froyo and older

$ sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy main multiverse"
$ sudo add-apt-repository "deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy-updates main multiverse"
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install sun-java5-jdk

Switch D2A_RT
Tool by hnkotnis

Hello Everyone!

I installed CM11 Kitkat on my Samsung Galaxy S Plus. I didn't wanted to activate the Developer's option in settings for next 5 days (Because I don't want my friends mess around). But I wanted to switch over to ART. So I had such idea that I can do this from recovery.
But I also had idea, due to my previous work with Aroma Installer, that I can create a single zip that can revert back to Dalvik also.

I found that after Factory Restore runtime is set to Dalvik again.
So I concluded that it is stored in /data
After messing around with the /data partition, I found where selected runtime is saved.
I created such a zip and I am sharing with you.

Meanwhile, when I was writing this thread, similar thread suggest showed me another tool of XDA Senior Member husen4u.
However his tool has 2 different files required to be flashed.
I did not copy his work, but runtime change code is same for all Android 4.4+, however I still give him credits, because he created similar project first.

So I present you my new tool :- Switch D2A_RT

So general idea is this tool can change ART <------> Dalvik from single zip.

File it attached at bottom of this post.

Instructions:-

0. You need a Android 4.4+ ROM. :D
1. Download and put the zip file in any storage.
2. Go to recovery (use any recovery, I used CWM Touch 6.0.3.6).
3. Flash the zip file and navigate through Aroma Menu.
4. Choose ART or Dalvik and Reboot.
5. Rebooting can take lot of time (depending on number of apps). CyanogenMod 11 users can see "Android is upgrading" screen.
  • ENJOY!!!

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):-

Quote:

  • Phone bootlooping after changing runtime to ART?
=> Change runtime to Dalvik back again. Your phone (may) not be compatible.
  • Apps crash with ART as runtime?
=> That is not my fault. ART is in primary stage and many apps do not support ART. Switch back to Dalvik to use such apps.
  • Status 0 Error while flashing the zip?
=> Relax. Take update-binary of ROM of your device. Rename it to "update-binary-installer" and use it to replace its counterpart from zip.
  • Runtime is not changing to ART?
=> 1) Uninstall Xposed Framework, Reboot. Then try again. Xposed and ART don't work simultaneously.
Or_2) Check if "libart.so" and "libart-compiler.so" are in /system/lib. If they don't exits, ROM is not compatible with ART.
Or_3) Open "/data/property/persist.sys.dalvik.vm.lib" with text editor and find what is runtime.
  • You stole XYZ's (XYZ is example person's name) work.
=> I sincerely tell you, I didn't do that. I discovered this on my own after scanning all files in /data.

I tested this on my SGS+ GT-I9001 with CM11. Both functions work. However there might be some minor GUI/icon/picture size errors.
But main functions of this work fine.

RK3188 - Minix NEOX7 - unpack and repack boot.img

Hi all folks,
I have some question about the stock android system in this specific box and the format of the dumped partition.
Try to explain, I'm using rkflashtool to interact with the memory of the RK3188
This is the output of the command

rkflashtool r 0 1 | head -n 11
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CMDLINE:console=ttyFIQ0 androidboot.console=ttyFIQ0
init=/init initrd=0x62000000,0x00800000 mtdparts=rk29xxnand:
0x00002000@0x00002000(misc),
0x00008000@0x00004000(kernel),
0x00008000@0x00012000(boot),
0x00010000@0x00020000(recovery),
0x00020000@0x00030000(backup),
0x00040000@0x00050000(cache),
0x00800000@0x00090000(userdata),
0x00002000@0x00890000(kpanic),
0x00130000@0x00892000(system),
-@0x009c5000(user)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess the boot partition is something linke that:

+-------+ <--- 0x00019fe0
| boot |
+-------+ <----0x00012000

With this command i'm able to dump the entrie boot partition on my linux box in a file named b00t.img :

rkflashtool r 0x12000 0x8000 > b00t.img

Now, i have find out that with the tool rkunpack (or simply with dd) i'm able to unpack this b00t.img. The output are two file:
b00t.img-raw
b00t.img-symbol

The first file is no more than a gzip compressed data file, I'm able to extract the data in a directory with this command:

gunzip < ../b00t.img-raw | sudo cpio -i --make-directories

Now in this dir I have all the files of the / partition. I can modify for example the /init.rc.

I want to repack the entrie b00t.img in order to flash it again on the device.

NB:
In this thread these guys work at something like my problem...
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...ull=1#post4055
The difference is that they work on a different partition layout, and the rkunpack of dumped boot.img return they only boot.img-raw.

Obviously I've already tried to repack the modified directory in this two ways:

mkcramfs myboot myboot-temp.img
kcrc myboot-temp.img customboot.img
or
find . ! -name "."| sort | cpio -oa -H newc | gzip -n > ../newboot.gz
kcrc newboot.gz customboot.img

None of these leads to obtain a file large enough to fit the boot partition on the deivice, that I want fill with:
rkflashtool w 0x12000 0x8000 < modifiedb00t.img

Has anyone ever worked with rk3188? Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Advanced File Locker App/Setting

Hey Guys,

I'm not sure if this has been created yet - if it hasn't would anybody mind creating this with me?
(I've got a week off and I may aswell use it to my advantage)

It's like an app locker, but a lot more advanced , specifically for files, it would probably require root - let me explain what I mean:

Okay, so let's say (a random guy) Tom has a Nexus 5 and he has a picture of his girlfriend on it (but he wants to keep it private)
So Bill wants to see that picture of his girlfriend, so Bill goes onto Tom's gallery (on his phone of course) and finds the picture.

That's where the app comes in

So then a popup will appear saying something like "What's the password", Bill has to enter the password, but he can't get it so he can't see the picture of Tom's girlfriend

So then Bill attempts the password 4 times wrong and before the 5th attempt another pop up appears saying something like "If you enter the password wrong once more, this file will be deleted" so he enters the password wrong once more thinking he knew it and the file gets deleted.

So then Tom gets his phone back and realizes that the picture's gone meaning that somebody tried to see it, he then restores the picture which has automatically been backed up to a cloud-service website thingy like Dropbox, Box or Mediafire and he has his picture back, safe, sound and out of the sight of prying eyes.

Has an app like this been created yet?
If not, anybody that wants to make an app like this can you just private message me, especially if you're a developer, that'd be great 'cause you guys know your stuff don't you? :D

Anyway, thanks guys hope to hear from y'all soon.

Peace.

Huawei H881C bootloader unlocked and (CWM) recovery built

Ok folks, there has been a little interest in the Huawei h881c Ascend Plus (Ace) from straight talk in the forums. The problem has been that, while we have root, there is no bootloader unlock/bypass or custom recovery yet.

That being said, I think I may have stumbled upon a start to a solution, but I require a little assistance from the higher authorities (IE: I need some dev support). I am pretty sure that I have unlocked the bootloader (according to a few flashing apps and fastboot), and I have built a CWM touch recovery via the CWM build bot (Jenkins). I have been able to recognize the device in ADB and fastboot, flash the recovery.img using
Code:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
, I have noticed that the default Huawei and Tracfone splash and boot images have been replaced with and orange splash written in Chinese, and the boot animation is the default android boot animation. (I will attach screen shots if needed).

The stumbling blocks that I have hit:

1) It seems that the stock recovery image has been deleted with the flashing of the new cwm touch recovery image. If I try to reboot into recovery, either by rom manager, reboot app, or manual method, the phone does one boot loop and then boots into the normal system.

2) No matter what method I use to attempt to flash the recovery (ADB, Fastboot, Flashify), The recovery will not "stick", and the OEM recovery is still gone.

3) This kind of goes without saying, but through terminal or cmd, the "flash_image" command does not work. "Cannot locate partition" error is the result.

If I can spark the interest of any devs out there willing to help, I will gladly provide the stock recovery.img, stock boot.img, cwm recovery.img and the recovery.zip provided by the recovery builder (this includes the recovery.fstab, sh commands, etc...). Any and all help is appreciated in moving forward with the development of this device. Either contact me here in the thread or PM me and I will provide all of the info that I have available to me, along with any files needed.

Lets do this.........
