Hello XDA,

Does anyone know of any development of booting an Android image from an Android phone, or any kind of sandboxing environment?
I know we can boot into a linux image. Surely we could do the same with an Android image - has anyone tried?
I'm one of those Barclays bank users who cannot user their apps due to rooting!

Thanks in advance!

TWRP or CWM?

Hello,
i would like to install a custom rom to my china smartphone coolpad 1S with CPU: mtk6592T (armv7 processor rev4(v7l). instruction set: armeabi v7a)
I found many custom roms for my device (for example, the MIUI V6.0),
but i didn't find a simple guide to flash the rom to my device.

I found only that , to install the custom rom, i need to install a recovery TWRP or CWM.
And i found that i need to create the recovery.
To do this, i found that i must use one of the following tools:

MTKdroid tools, to generate/install the CWM
or
EasyMagic TWRP, to generate/install the TWRP.

I would like to know which of the above is the easiest and safest to be used for my phone.
And, finally, if to install the ROM i need a tool, or if i simply can flash it booting my phone in recovery mode.

Thank you!

I patched the latest Instagram APK so you can use the new UI

Hi,

I recently came across the new design for Instagram that the company is testing. I know many people like the new design, including me, but the company is only testing it with a really small percentage of its users, and looks like many of the people who got the new design have lost it now.

So, I spent the last night decompiling the APK and understanding how their A/B testing works. I found an interesting file called Experiments.java, which contains all their current A/B tests (list of tests) and found something called ig_android_whiteout_kill_switch, whose value is controlled in the IgGateKeeper.java file. "Whiteout" is an internal name for their new design, and all drawables have a "whiteout" suffix. So anyway, in IgGateKeeper, there's a method called public static boolean m27854d() (m27854d is just an obfuscated name for the actual function name), which controls whether you're a part of the test or not. So I patched the function so it always returns true. Installed the new APK and voila! I have the new design.

Proof:

If you like the new design and want to try it, you can download the APK from https://www.dropbox.com/s/xl5jh9glwp...esign.apk?dl=0

Note: You will have to uninstall the version on your device before installing this APK. You will also have to log into Instagram using your username/password instead of logging in using Facebook, because unfortunately making modifications to the code changes the app's hash key, which FB verifies when logging in via FB (but strangely, not when logging in using login credentials)

Hello xda,
I am new into kernel development.Recently I downloaded the kernel sources for my phone Zenfone 2 Laser -ZE550KL
After that I compiled the stock kernel, since It is based on arm64 I got a file named Image instead of zImage.
After searching I found a way to convert that to a boot.img (using the ramdisk from stock kernel).I could get the kernel to boot on the device using
Code:

fastboot boot boot.img
The device booted successfully with the kernel, I could see change in the name of Kernel in About Phone.
But the problem is Wifi/Bluetooth and Soft keys do not work.Wifi turns on But cannot see any AP.
BT works(A BT enabled watch vibrated )but no device can be seen in bletooth settings.
Please help me with this kernel.

here is the link to my source=>
https://github.com/abhishekr700/ZE550KL_KERNEL
I am using ze550kl_defconfig present in /kernel/arch/arm64/configs to make .config file for building kernel.

Thanks.

What does this actually do to tell the bootloader that it is ok to unlock.
Write a 1 byte file to the system partition?
Write one byte of the bootloader?

Searching google just gave "How to Enable OEM Unlock to unlock your bootloader" articles nothing on how it actually works.

In this guide I will be showing you all that How to "Decompile, Edit and Recompile Apk with APKTOOL and SignApk"

REMEBER- THIS TUTORIAL IS ONLY FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE. I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR AND 3 PARTY COPYRIGHTS ISSUES..

Code is necessary for the implementation can be copied from here and watch the video below for the detail explanation of the implementation.

In this video I had shown how to Decompile, Edit And Recompile Apk with APKTOOL

I want to keep things simple and very easy. I will write a 5 step guide for setting up apktool and start modifying your app's or any other android framework. This guide will be strictly for windows users, since setting up and using apktool in windows is the easiest.
So lets begin -

[REQUIREMENTS]What you need before you learn how to use apktool -

1. A computer running windows
2. A working internet connection for downloading the following -
  • JAVA SDK and JRE
  • Android SDK
  • Apktool core tool
  • Sign apk tool
3.Basic command prompt commands and path knowledge

STEP 1 - Install JAVA - Go HERE

1. Just go to the above website and download java SDK and JRE.
2.We mostly use only SDK libraries but JRE is required when you want to modify games or apps like whatsapp. So its best if we install both.
3. Install them in any directory for example C: drive and you are good to go to next step 2.

STEP 2 -Install Android SDK- Go HERE

1. Just go to the above website and download the SDK.
2. Install it in an easy path. For example - C:android
3. The short path will be useful when you are using adb for logcat purposes, since typing in a long path every-time you want to access the adb executable file is painful.
4. So once you installed the SDK move on to next step 3

STEP 3 - Download Apktool - Go HERE

1. For downloading apktool related files, you need to go HERE
2. Download latest apktool version, currenlty 1.5.2
3. Download the batch file and aapt.exe
4. Create a folder anywhere in the pc and put all the apktool.jar, aapt.exe and the batch script in that folder. [see screenshot]
5.This will be the operating folder for you now.
6. Next move to next step 4
STEP 4 - Using apktool for decompiling app

1. Open command prompt
2. navigate to the folder where you placed apktool.jar, batch script and the aapt.exe [see screenshot]
3. For this guide i am using a simple framework-res.apk for reference.
4. Once you are in the folder via cmd prompt, you need to install the file using the " IF " command
5. type the following command if you are decompilng apk which is attached with frameworks, if not then you can directly apply 2 command.(apktool d name-of-the-app .apk)

Code:

apktool if name-of-the-app .apk
When the command is executed correctly, it will look like this-

Code:

apktool if framework-res.apk
1. Once the app is installed you need to decompile it.
2. For decompiling use the command "d". The "d" stands for decompile.

Code:

apktool d name-of-the-app .apk
For example-

Code:

apktool d framework-res.apk
  • After the app is correctly decompiled, a new folder will be created in the same folder where you placed your app. This contains all the xml's and smali files which can be edited for different mod's.

For example, here's how it will look once the app is decompiled -

1. Then after you are finished with your modding, you need to recompile your app for using it.
2. To recompile the app use the following command " b ". The "b" simply means recompile.

Code:

apktool b name-of-the-app-folder
  • NOTE - While recompiling the app, you just need to type the name of the folder the app's files contains.

For example -

Code:

apktool b framework-res
We also type folder name because we are compiling the content which is inside the folder. We are not compiling the apk which is our directory.
  • The final modded app will be in the dist folder located inside the original app folder created by apktool.

For Example-

  • Congrats ! If everything went well, you successfully created a modified app !
  • Now the most important step is below in step 5

Quote:

NOTE - You MUST follow the step 5. Or else the app wont work.
STEP 5 - Signing the apk
  • To sign an apk download the "sign-apk.rar" from below attachements
  • Extract it to any place.
  • Open a new command prompt and change into the sign-apk directory using cmd
  • Move the modified-unsigned apk into this folder [see screenshot] -

  • then type the following command -

Code:

java -jar signapk.jar certificate.pem key.pk8 path-of-the-folder-contaning-the-apk .apk path-of-the-new-signed-apk .apk
For Example-

Code:

java -jar signapk.jar certificate.pem key.pk8 framework-res.apk framework-res-signed.apk
  • Once compiled, the signed apk will be found in the same folder with changed name which you typed in cmd.

  • This is FINAL APK.:D
  • Simply rename it to the original apk and push it into the system ! DONE !

Download SignApk from here.

If you have any errors or problems related to apktool, post them here, I will try to solve them.:D

System-less Root Disabler

If you have a built a permissive kernel & SuperSU (zip) just keeps annoying by patching boot image for a system-less root everytime, you can flash this simple zip via TWRP (or CWM if it exists for newer devices). It will simply disable system-less installation method, and force SuperSU to do a system install.

How to change the official samsung splash/boot screen/logo samsung

$

OK first thing first IM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE OR DECIDE TO BE CARELESS OR CREATE A CYCLONE... you know the drill.

Well i stumbled on this by mistake and hey it works!!!!

Some of us do get bored with seeing the same thing over and over again specailly if u keep switching on and off your phone for whatever reason...

we can change boot animations thats popular but now we can the splash screen and by splash screen i mean boot logo and by bootlogo i mean that image that show "Samsung Galaxy **** powered by android"
Samsung stores its boot files in Param Partition but extracting those images is a hustle well now you dont have to... Here's How and its easy...

I dont know if it will work for any other device with a param partition but i am using Samsungs

YOU WILL NEED:
- A rooted device (Samsung)
- Terminal emulator or ADB (I used ADB but still i was at adb shell)
- Being able to check your partition (But ill explain how anyway)

HOW TO

CHECKING PARTITION BLOCK
1.a First check which block is your Param partition
use and root browsing app and goto /dev/platform/****/by-name
where i used *** is where things differ... there are usually two folder and one will have a folder named "by-name"...
take note of the full path to by-name
E.g in my j7 its: /dev/block/platform/13540000.dwmmc0/by-name

1.b In ADB type "adb shell"
now in Terminal or Continue in ADB
- run "ls -l /dev/block/platform/****/by-name"
- It will output all your block partition with their names
- Take the name of your mmcblk*** and mine is mmcblk0p9

NOTE : BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL PARAM PARTITION
In Terminal or adb shell:
$ su
# dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk*** of=/data/media/0/param.fls
or dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk*** of=/storage/extSdCard/param.fls
-------- on of="Location to your sdcard (ext or int)" Dont use linked storages

Getting another device's Param file (The Boot logo you want)
Backup its PARAM partition by doing The steps above (Get block partition name and extract)

CHANGING YOUR BOOTLOGO[/COLOR]
-Copy the param.fls file you backed up to your device and note the location you put it (Dont overwrite your original)
In Terminal or adb shell
$ su
# dd if=location_param_file_you_copied/param.fls of=your_dev_block_partition
e.g
# dd if=/data/media/0/copied/param.fls of=/dev/block/mmcblk***

to restore your original change your bootlogo by your original Param.fls

[GUIDE] How to Build TencentOS for any Device [GUIDE]

$
0
0

TencentOS is an aftermarket firmware designed by the Chinese company Tencent. Tencent also created the QQ and WeChat IM services.

TencentOS, just like MiUi is not open source. However, Tencent has provided a version of PatchRom for you to use called TOSPlus. I have tested this on the Samsung Galaxy Star Pro. The guide for the TencentOS PatchRom is different than the MiUi and LewaOS and it is written in Chinese only. I will be writing a guide in English so that more people can port this great ROM to their devices.

Step 1:
Make sure you are on a version of Ubuntu 14.04 or greater (16.04 may or may not work).

Step 2:
Now you need to make a copy of the TencentOS PatchRom. Change to whatever directory you want and Type:
Code:

git clone https://github.com/TOSPlus/TPS
This will make a folder called TPS in whatever directory you were in before. The TPS folder will contain all of the code required to build TencentOS for your device.

Step 3:
Change the directory to TPS and type:
Code:

source build/envsetup.sh
This will initiate the build process.

Step 4:
Next, you build the directory for your device. Type:
Code:

make create brand=put-manufacturer-name device=device-model
Replace "put-manufacturer-name" with your manufacturer and replace "device-model" with your device model.

Step 5:
Next you need to copy a zip file of a ROM you want to use as your base into your device model folder. Name the zip file to ota.zip. Make sure the base ROM is android 4.3 or above.

Step 6:
Now, you configure the build. Type:
Code:

make config=device-model
Replace device-model with your device's model.

Step 7:
Once you have that done, you need to edit a few files. Those files are misc_info.txt, remove_files.list, tos_system_files.ignore, and build.prop. You can find all of the files underneath the config folder within your device-model folder.

In misc_info.txt, you need to change blocksize, boot_size, recovery_size, system_size, userdata_size, and cache_size to match your device. You can find these in the BoardConfig.mk of your device.

In remove_files.list, you add the files that need to be removed so that TencentOS can function fully. This usually takes quite a bit of trial and error to get correct.

In tos_system_files.ignore, you designate which files should not get edited when you are patching the different services.

In the build.prop, you need to add the TencentOS properties.
example (for the gt-i9500):
ro.qrom.beaconkey=0M000V5PH01B6QQD
ro.qrom.product.device=ja3g
ro.qrom.product.device.brand=samsung
ro.qrom.build.brand=tos
ro.qrom.build.os=android4.4.2
ro.qrom.otapath=/data/media/0
qrom_disposeIcon_enable=1
qrom_permission_enable=1
# ro.qrom.build.version.snflag=ADRQRTOS
ro.qrom.build.version.snver=01
#need edit ro.qrom.build.version.day=151028
ro.qrom.build.version.name=ADRQRTOS01_M
ro.qrom.build.version.number=01151028
ro.qrom.build.version.type=M
#need edit ro.qrom.build.number=3
ro.qrom.build.lc=A1B2C3000D4E5F6
ro.qrom.build.lcid=99
#need edit ro.qrom.build.date=Wed OCT 28 21:01:25 CST 2015
ro.qrom.build.date.utc=1446014851
ro.qrom.build.type=mod

Everything that says need edit, you need to edit for your device specifically.

Step 8:
Copy file_contexts from the boot.img and put in the config folder.

Step 9:
Copy recovery.fstab from the recovery.img of your device to the config folder

Step 10:
Next, you need to extract all of the files from the ota.zip and put them in the correct place. To do that, type:
Code:

make prepare
Step 11:
Now, you can patch your ota.zip. type:
Code:

make patch
If there are any failed patches, you have to patch those smali files manually.

Step 12:
After patching has been done, type:
Code:

make repack
It repacks the jars and frameworks required that TencentOS has edited.

Step 13:
You made it :) this is the final step. Type:
[CODE]make package[/B]
It will create a zip file of TencentOS for your device model.

Then you can flash it in a custom recovery and enjoy your new ROM :)
