Where's the docs (build.prop)

Hi all, where are files such as build.prop documented? In any Linux distro one can simple type "man /etc/fstab" to learn what that file is, besides the obvious of looking at it. I'd love to find something like that for Android files, specifically /system/build.prop.

Searching on the official Android dev site, this was the best that it could do:

Note that I pretty much know what build.prop is for, but I'd like to see where it is documented. Whereever that is, there is probably a wealth of information that I wouldn't even know that I'm missing.
