I have an older Android device, a Creative ZEN Touch 2, running on Android 2.2.1 - same situation as above.
Got it in 2011. The device does have potential: it has an AMRv7 800 MHz processor. I have an LG P500h, but it's an AMRv6 600MHz, and fluidity difference is noticeable for games, with the 2 devices.
As Vituzz said, the device is really buggy, should be the Creative firmware... I don't have access to the complete SPECS now as I can't boot the device for now (That happen - it boot 1 times out of 10 now. Firmware fault?). I believe it's a little low on RAM (256MB?) which would explain the freezes - but should Android 2.2.1 run without freezing even with 256 of RAM ?
Straight to the point:
The device also randomly loose sound, mute everything. Randomly. The sound sometimes go back, but after a reboot, for 2 to 20 minutes. Haven't been able to figure out why, and when exactly.
So what if that was the fault of the firmware?
I previously tried to install a custom ROM on it - the thing is that, as Vituzz said, the device is not listed in ROM Manager, so ClockWorkMod (Which I believe should be required for a firmware change) is not installable with ROM Manager - I guess it's unable to backup the ROM.
Let's face it, I already have an LG smartphone, and the ZEN Touch 2 is on life-support since last year. I'm open to take the risk to install a custom ROM on it, force the install, knowing it might definitely brick it. At that point, it's quite unusable anyway, I guess if that's possible, that's a worthy risk.
Assuming the device name is ignored, what would be the most probable way to make it work? Is there any ROM that is known to be compatible with a lot of devices? Or maybe if I could come up with the detailes Specs with Elixir, maybe we could attempt to install a ROM on a similar device ?
Might brick it - but it just sit on my shelf. Is that possible at all, to force the installation ?
