[Q] Upgrading from Cyanogenmod 10.0 up, storage issues

I'm not sure if I'm wording this correctly, but I'm currently on 10.0 (stable) and have been using the M releases since they first started; however, with the latest M1 and M2, I run into some major issues:
  1. Storage seems to have changed from /external_sd to /extSdCard, so much of my external media is not found.
  2. A folder called "0" (zero) exists in the root with some (but not all) of my external media files.
  3. Many applications FC periodically.
  4. Options on reboot menu are gone - need to use terminal now to "reboot recovery". Hardware buttons also do not work (holding volume keys + power, etc.)

I know the FCs could just be the instability of the experimental ROM, but my one major question is WTF is up with the filesystem? I read Jellybean was looking to unify external & internal for some reason, but information seems scarce.

BTW yes, I cleared cache, Dalvik, etc. just to be sure it wasn't a ****ty flash. I also reinstalled G-apps latest, etc.
